How to Make Space for Hobbies

You may have a small home or just a home full of people and activity.  It's not so difficult to carve out space for crafts, scrapbooking or another hobby.  Try these ideas:

* Set up an armoire in your living area.  You can customer design the inside with shelves and cubbies.  Use it to hold all your supplies.  The best part is being able to close the doors at the end of the day.

* Carve out a niche in an under-stair space.  Fill with shelves and you've got your craft center.

* Make it portable.  Use file totes with handles, baskets and rolling carts.  No one says a hobby has to stay in one place.  It can be convenient to easily transport scrapbooking supplies anywhere you're in the mood to work.

* Consider an under-the-bed container that will hold your supplies if you're really tight on space.  You can then use the container as a work top.

* Move up a closet rod and install shelving underneath.  This will free up space for hobby supplies.

Be creative!  Use trunks, large bins or decorative baskets to hold hobby supplies.  Be sure to keep supplies to a minimum.  It's easy to become overwhelmed with too many hobby items.  Enjoy working with what you have.  Start small and it will surely grow to fill your space.
